Know Your Options For Food at Fitzroy Island

If you’re visiting Tropical North Queensland for the crystal clear, turquoise waters, then Fitzroy Island is 100% the place to be.

Fitzroy Island is everything that a paradise island should be!

But, if you’re a planner like me, it’s always good to know what options you have. Knowing what food at Fitzroy Island is available before you head over there is very useful.

I wanted to use this article to cover the different options you have for food at Fitzroy Island so you can be well prepared and get the most out of your day.

If you haven’t already booked your ferry tickets over to the island, I recommend booking this ferry so you get the most possible time to enjoy the island.

Fitzroy Island Food Prices

The food prices at Fitzroy Island are pretty standard, perhaps slightly more expensive that what you would find on the mainland.

Foxy’s Bar serves reasonable pub meals including burgers, salads, philly cheese steak roll, Chicken Parmy, and Prime Rib Steak and pricing is typically around $25-$30 for a full meal.

They also have a range of snackfood like loaded fries and chicken wings priced around $10-$14, and a kids menu priced at $12.

Five Options For Food at Fitzroy Island

When it comes to figuring out what to eat while you’re on Fitzroy Island, you have a few different options.

  1. Foxy’s Bar Dine In or Takeaway
  2. Book A Transfer with Lunch Included
  3. Book A Tour With Lunch Included
  4. Pack a Picnic
  5. Fitzroy Island General Store
  6. Zephyr Restaurant at Fitzroy Island Resort (breakfast and dinner only)

Foxy’s Bar Fitzroy Island

Foxy’s Bar on the island is the most popular choice for lunch when visiting Fitzroy Island.

Welcome bay, where the transfer ferry drops you off, proves to be the perfect backdrop for Foxy’s Bar.

The lunch menu is quite typical for any type of bar. You’ll find burgers, salads, sandwiches and more.

You can enjoy ice cold beers, a bucket full or prawns, fruity cocktails, and more while taking in the gentle tropical breeze and views you will never forget.

The pricing at Foxy’s Bar is pretty average for this type of food.

If you don’t feel like eating in the bar, ask the staff to make your meal a takeaway. They’ll pack it up for you to take with you to find a shady spot under a tree…

My friends and I once ordered a burger and a 6 pack of beer from the bar. From there, we packed it up into the kayak we hired from the dive shop and paddled our way around the island to a secluded spot.

We enjoyed the afternoon paddling in the water and hanging out with a green sea turtle that was swimming nearby.

It made for the most incredible day!

Book A Transfer with Lunch Included

Not all ferry companies have the option to include lunch, but This ferry transfer does.

It’s a good option if you prefer to have everything organized before you go but don’t want to carry it all across to the island.

They’ll cater for vegetarian, celiac, gluten & pork free, or any other dietary requirement you may have.

Cold Menu Option: Chicken salad wrap, or ham & cheese roll with a piece of seasonal fruit, energy fruit bar, drink & bottle of water.

Hot Menu Option: Japanese beef & potato curry, piece of seasonal fruit, energy fruit bar, drink & bottle of water

Book A Tour Package With Lunch Included

There are a few different tours you can book that include lunch with your chosen activity.

The company that offers these packages is the same company that runs the ferry above, so the picnic lunch options are essentially the same.

These include.

Pack A Picnic

If a relaxed beachside picnic is more your jam or you’re wanting to keep the costs down, then you’re in luck!

Fitzroy Island allows you to bring your own food and drinks to the island.

However, bringing alcohol with you is not allowed.

We usually opt to bring a picnic with us when we go over.

We love settling down in a spot in the shade of the trees at Nudey Beach with the kids and having snack food available throughout the entire day.

If you choose to bring a picnic with you, please be considerate and make sure you dispose of any garbage properly.

Fitzroy Island General Store

The general store on Fitzroy Island has very basic food and supplies.

Because of this, I really don’t recommend relying on the general store for ‘lunch’.

However, it is perfect for grabbing a nice cold ice-cream or some other snack to take with you on your way home.

If you’re staying at the Fitzroy Island Resort and cooking in the apartments, I highly recommend bringing food with you to the island, as the food available at the Fitzroy Island General Store is extremely limited.

Zephyr Restaurant at Fitzroy Island Resort

Zephyr Restaurant is mostly targeted toward overnight guests at Fitzroy Island Resort and is therefore only open for breakfast and dinner, so if you’re visiting Fitzroy Island as a daytrip, you’ll most likely miss out on dining here.

However, if you are staying on the island, then Zephyr Restaurant is a great choice if you’re looking for more of a fine-dining setting with incredible views.

The few times I’ve dined at Zephyr, the food has been reasonably good and the staff really friendly.  Food pricing at Zephyr was comparable to any other fine dining restaurant you’d find on the mainland, around $35-$40 for a main dish.

    1. Hi Alan!
I don’t remember exactly because I bought food at the same time but it was around $25-$28. I remember expecting it to be more than what it was and it was quite comparable to what you would expect to pay on the mainland.

      I hope this helps.

Fitzroy is one of my favourite places in the region! When are you looking at visiting?
