The balmy tropical sun peeps through the rainforest Canopy. You approach the railings around the edge of the wooden decking and Barron Falls unveils itself to you.

The sign of the water booming down over the 125m drop takes your breath away.

You’re standing squarely in front of one of the most remarkable waterfalls in Far North Queensland!

While the dry season, the falls appear to be just a mere trickle, during the wet season, this great waterfall turns into it’s own force of nature and is surely a sight not to miss.

Even after living in the region for almost a decade, we still join the other locals who take the time to check out this unforgettable site.

In fact, visiting the Barron Falls during wet season, lands squarely in my list of my top recommendations for things to do in Cairns, especially when it’s raining (hello Wet Season!).

Is Barron Falls Flowing? Check Out The Barron Falls Webcam

Considering its popularity among people visiting the region, it became a no-brainer for the local Skyrail to install a live webcam of the falls.

Check out the footage below… And remember to save this blog to your Pinterest account (or bookmark this page) so you can come back to it later, closer to your visit.

Barron Falls Lookouts

There are a number of different lookout platforms you can get a good view of the falls.

The most accessible is via Kuranda and is an elevated walkway through the rainforest.

This pathway is well maintained and is completely suitable for prams and wheelchairs.

Walkway from the car park to the Barron Falls viewing platform

From the falls car park, the short walk results in views that are nothing short of breath-taking.

This same lookout platform is accessed by passengers on the Kuranda Scenic Railway – an historic train which brings travellers to and from Kuranda.

This popular train ride stops at the Barron Waterfall lookout (approximately 10 minutes out from Kuranda), and allows passengers to hop off, take in the view and snap some photos before continuing their journey.

Alternatively, a journey on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway will give you access to a platform lookout called ‘The Edge’.

‘The Edge’ cannot be accessed from any way other than the Skyrail.

Enjoy unimpeded views over the Barron Waterfalls from the glass-framed walkway. You’ll leave with memories that will last you a lifetime.

Getting To The Barron Falls Lookout

You can catch a glimpse from the lookouts over the falls.

  • Kuranda Scenic Railway – The train will stop around 10 minutes outside of Kuranda where you can get off the train and onto the platform lookout over the falls.
  • Cairns Skyrail Rainforest Cableway – At the Barron Falls stop, you’ll be able to make your way to ‘The Edge’ lookout and take in the breath-taking views!
  • Self-Drive to Kuranda / Barron Falls
  • Walking Track From Kuranda Township to Barron Falls Lookout – Allow approximately 45 minutes

Final Thoughts

Barron Falls is one of the most iconic destinations to visit while in Cairns, Australia.

This waterfall is certainly mighty… and it can seriously put on a show with a bit of rain.

It’s easily accessible, especially if you’re already planning on visiting Kuranda during your time in Cairns.

Remember to save the pin below so you can come back at any time to check up on the Live Web Cam leading up to your visit to FNQ, Australia! (especially if we’ve had a bit of rain!)
